The DAP is an interdisciplinary project, and authorship conventions differ across disciplines. Authorship plans should be discussed early in a research project so that all co-investigators have shared expectations regarding authorship. The author order in a paper Topic Proposal should reflect a tentative authorship plan, agreed upon by all co-authors at the time the Topic Proposal is submitted. The list can include a position title if an individual has not yet been recruited for a key role in the project (e.g., a graduate student). The P&P committee understands that the author list included in the Topic Proposal is not final. The list of named authors on the resulting publication can differ (the set of named authors and/or the author order).
Individuals who make substantial contributions to a specific research project should be named authors on DAP papers and are typically involved in preparing the paper Topic Proposal. Papers reporting scientific or clinical findings using DAP data will also include “The Dog Aging Project Consortium” as a co-author, typically just before the senior authors or at the end of the author list.
